Who Says Blacks are “Irredeemably Evil”?
For those of you who subscribe to the thought that blacks are “irredeemably evil” and other such non-sense (from blacks no less) that we read in the comments here, look at this story of a little black (yes BLACK) girl who took a bullet trying to save her mother from a criminal below the fold
Alexis Goggins climbed aboard a special bicycle and maneuvered through hospital hallways, beginning the months of physical therapy she needs to recover from six gunshot wounds.
To many people, the soft-spoken 7-year-old is a hero after she threw herself across her mother just as a gunman was about to shoot the woman in an SUV.
“An angel is what I call her,” Seliethia Parker said of her daughter.
After more than two months in the hospital and six surgeries, Alexis was recently released. She returns twice a week for physical therapy.
The young girl bears several scars from the December 2 shooting, including a long, thin surgical line stretching from one side of her hairline to the other. Her right eye, which was blinded in the attack, has also been removed.
During rehabilitation, she rides a bicycle designed to be pedaled with a person’s hands and plays hand-eye coordination games.
[...]The mother and daughter were getting a ride from a friend when Parker’s former boyfriend emerged from the shadows outside Parker’s house and jumped into the vehicle. He then forced the friend to drive at gunpoint for several minutes.
Under the pretense of needing fuel, Parker’s friend stopped at a Detroit gas station to call 911.
Inside the SUV, Parker pleaded with the gunman not to shoot. As he was about to open fire, Alexis cried, “Don’t hurt my mother!” and jumped into her mother’s arms from the back seat.
Despite her daughter’s efforts, Parker was shot twice.
[...]Since the attack, Alexis and her family have received more than 200 letters from well-wishers, some from as far away as London. Supporters have also contributed $30,000 to a fund set up for Alexis through her school.
[...]Parker says her daughter is a living miracle.
“I’m thanking God every day that me and my baby are still here,” she said. “It has taught me to … appreciate the smaller things in life.”
Score another one for humanity
Akhee, I didn’t say that blacks are irredeemably evil. I said that their CULTURE is. May Allaah guide this little girl and her mother to Islaam.
If you read the story akhee, you will see that it is the evil cultural situation that led to this poor little girl’s getting shot.
1) Her mother endangered her child with this man that was not her husband.
2) The shooter was engaging in black culture when he shot her
3) The shooter jacked their car as their culture teaches
4) The shooter had zero regard for the fact that a child was in the car
5) The shooter tried to kill the mother and this is proof of that culture’s love of violence
All of this makes MY point that black culture is evil and immoral. Had they not been engaging in black culture, this would not have happened and Allaah knows best…
Black culture caused this tragedy
HOLD UP…I want to make sure I am reading this correctly.
I don’t know the origins of the brother’s ridiculous and UNISLAMIC commentary, but Aboo Abdillah H
Remember Allah knows best, NOT YOU. The sooner you and many other Muslims realize that, the better of the rest of the Muslim society and the global society will be.
How do you “engage” in Black culture exactly? You note the shooter was”engaging in black culture when he shot her” as if Black culture is a prop that is only erected at times of violence or a temporary mental condition. Please define what you mean by culture and “engaging” in such. I think it is wonderfully convenient how we can attribute things to Black culture, but when the situation is flipped around to another group,it is not culture but some other social or economic force. Let’s take a step back for a moment. Would you argue that because Arabs and South Asians engage in suicide bombings and terrorists attacks then there is something evil and immoral about their culture? Fill me in…I am just trying to follow you train of (il)logic.
Aboo Abdillah H, that’s like saying, “I didn’t say Blacks are evil…I said they were diabolical! Sheesh! Get it right!”
You keep saying things like “The shooter was engaging in black culture when he shot her” and “All of this makes MY point that black culture is evil and immoral”, etc.
Can you tell me what is evil about the culture of Black Senegal? What was evil about the culture of Black Americans in Georgia in the 18th century? What is evil about the culture of the Blacks of Upper Class America who populate many of the most affluent ‘Burbs of America? What is evil about the culture of the Blacks in America’s RURAL communities?
The problem is that you are taking a small percentage of Black Americans (Urban lower class Black youth) to vilify the entire race demonizing some supposed “Black Culture”. There is NO SUCH THING as a “Black Culture”. There are scores of cultures amongst the Blacks of the world.
I find it ironic that I am defending a so-called “Black Culture” to a Black man who is insistent on debasing his own race, when I grew up running with White supremacists and skinheads some of whom went to prison for their hate crimes. When I got into Islam it removed my racism. Sadly, your understanding of Islam has planted it into you.
May Allah guide us all. Amin.
ASA Aboo. I pray that Allah will grant us all a better understanding of many of the issues affecting our communities, and further prevent us from engaging in stereotyping and any other offensive behavior toward any particular ethnic or racial group. Ameen.
Many of the issues plaguing the black community are largely societal, not cultural. But assuming that we define these things as cultural, stating that “Black Culture” is irredeemably evil is both racist and extremely offensive to the thousands of African-American families in this country who do not engage in violence, are responsible and productive citizens, work hard to raise responsible young men and women, those of us who are Muslim, and those of us working to bring about sincere change in the moral fabric of our communities ravaged by the lasting legacy of slavery and its enduring psychological and economic impact on our communities.
There are many aspects of so-called “Black culture” that other groups could learn from. Historically, African-American families took care of their own by not only seeing to it that their own families were taken care of, but others as well. Neighbors looked out for one another, saw to it that everyone’s children were fed, and upheld one another’s safety and well-being. In my community (the Brookland neighborhood in D.C.) for one, this is still largely the case. Neighbors take care to report any suspicious activity, call one another at work if someone of questionable character is hanging around someone’s home, and work to ensure the safety of our children. The Sunday dinner, where the entire family comes together to nourish both their bodies and minds, is also another tradition that other groups could learn from.
Moreover, let’s not forget that blacks paved the way for economic and other freedoms enjoyed by other minority groups through the hard-won struggle of the Civil Rights Movement. Many fought and died for the right to vote and other basic human rights, now enjoyed by many. Out of (and even before the formal establishment) of the Civil Rights Movement came organizations such as the NAACP and National Urban League, which today continues to fight for civil rights.
Some would also argue that integration actually harmed the African-American community because it largely drained many black neighborhoods of professors, teachers, historians, researchers and the like, as well as other professionals. It bears noting that since the 50’s and 60’s, several breakdowns have occurred in African-American communities in the number of married couples, community violence, and a poor educational system, leading largely to the disproportionality of gun violence, out-of-wedlock births and other problems that we see today. It’s also important to note that while a larger share of black families suffer from these ills, white Americans and other groups actually make up the larger share in terms of absolute numbers of these problems as African-Americans are only about 13% of the population in the U.S. All of these issues exist throughout different racial and ethnic groups.
I could easily say that “White culture” is built on raping countries and people of natural resources because this country was built on a legacy of capitalism and the accompanying greed at the expense of the well-being of large groups of people, including those of African-descent, Native Americans, and the Latino populations. I could also say that Jewish people are stingy, that Arabs are racist and treat women badly, or that Africans are violent due to the whole sale slaughter that we sometimes see in African countries, but I would never allow the behaviors of a few (no matter how few or how many) to color my thinking about an entire group of people.
It’s generally dangerous to speak in absolute terms about anything. No ethnic or racial group or community is without its problems. Let’s be careful not to unfairly assume or associate the behaviors of some (even in cases where things are occurring on a broad scale) with any diverse specific group of people based on race and ethnicity.
Allah has laid out for us in the Qur’an those things that are clearly haram and those things that are halal. As Muslims, we are to leave off those things that are haram. Again, in every culture there are those things that are worth preserving, and those things that need to be given up. For us as Muslims, in particular, we know that fornication, unprovoked violence, leaving our children motherless or fatherless, is inimical to our deen. Again, these are largely societal issues, not cultural issues.
Here are a couple of good articles that address the legacy of slavery and its impact in particular on the black community:
http://www.thenation.com/blogs/notion?pid=179106
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6456765.stm
Again, I pray that Allah will grant us all a greater understanding of these issues. Ameen.
Sadly people like Aboo Abdillah H see Islam as a chance to reject their race and find a new identity and family among Arabs.
Who has the better culture Arabs or BLACKS? Muslims that happen to have dark skin do not count.
Why do you people try to praise the dysfunctional drive by shooting, fornication ridden black culture? I reject it. My people are the salafis
Aboo, may Allah have mercy on you and your soul. May Allah guide you towards self-love. May Allah guide you away from the poison that has entered your heart and psyche.
Salaams
ASA Aboo. Brother, please read Surah 9, ayat 97. The good that we see among Muslim Arabs come from Islam. Allah made this clear in Qur’an. And, the Prophet (SAWS) made this clear in his last Khutbah. Was not Bilal (RAA) and Zayd (RAA) people of African (black) descent.
Allah also says that he made us into nations and tribe so that we would know one another.
This was the status of the Arabs when Rasullah received revelation. Allah said in Qur’an (translation):
97. The bedouins are the worst in disbelief and hypocrisy, and more likely to be in ignorance of the limits (Allâh’s Commandments and His Legal Laws, etc.) which Allâh has revealed to His Messenger. And Allâh is All-Knower, All-Wise.
98. And of the bedouins there are some who look upon what they spend (in Allâh’s Cause) as a fine and watch for calamities for you, on them be the calamity of evil. And Allâh is All-Hearer, All-Knower.
99. And of the bedouins there are some who believe in Allâh and the Last Day, and look upon what they spend in Allâh’s Cause as approaches to Allâh, and a cause of receiving the Messenger’s invocations. Indeed these (spendings in Allâh’s Cause) are an approach for them. Allâh will admit them to His Mercy. Certainly Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
100. And the first to embrace Islâm of the Muhâjirûn (those who migrated from Makkah to Al-Madinah) and the Ansâr (the citizens of Al-Madinah who helped and gave aid to the Muhâjirûn) and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allâh is well-pleased with them as they are well-pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success.
101. And among the bedouins round about you, some are hypocrites, and so are some among the people of Al-Madinah, they exaggerate and persist in hypocrisy, you (O Muhammad SAW) know them not, We know them. We shall punish them twice, and thereafter they shall be brought back to a great (horrible) torment.
102. And (there are) others who have acknowledged their sins, they have mixed a deed that was righteous with another that was evil. Perhaps Allâh will turn unto them in forgiveness. Surely, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful[].
103. Take Sadaqah (alms) from their wealth in order to purify them and sanctify them with it, and invoke Allâh for them. Verily! Your invocations are a source of security for them, and Allâh is All-Hearer, All-Knower.
ASA Aboo. To add one point to my previous post, despite their behavior at the time, the Rasuallah never separated himself or condemned his people wholesale. He never said that he was not an Arab. You should ask yourself if this ideology is Islamic. There is nothing endemic about the “Arab” culture that makes them superior to any people. Rasuallah was sent as a messenger to “all of the world.”
Excellent comments. Jazakumullahu khayran.
I woud also like to add that Sa`id ibn Jubayr (radi Allahu `anhu) was a Muslim of African descent and Kulayb (the little dog) “al-Hajjaj” bin Yusuf, the “Mubeer” of Thaqif and bombarder of the Haram al-Sharif, was a Muslim Arab (though `Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr, and perhaps even his mother the great Asmaa’ bint Abi Bakr as-Siddiq, would have pondered the “Muslim” part of that).
Read up on the history of those two and their conflict and how it ended up. Was it “Black Culture” that made Sa`id ibn Jubayr a hero and was it “Arab Culture” that made Kulayb bin Yusuf who called himself “al-Hajjaj” a tyrant?
Abu Abdillah obviously is suffering from self hate. This boy is in need

Sperm cells created from female embryo
He said, ‘I am someone who detests the deed you perpetrate. My Lord, rescue me and my family from what they are doing.’ Therefore We rescued him and all his family – except for an old woman who remained behind. Then We utterly destroyed the rest and made a rain come pouring down upon them. How evil is the rain of those who are warned! There is certainly a Sign in that, yet most of them are not muminun. (Surat ash-Shu’ara: 165-174)

Sperm cells have been created from a female human embryo in a remarkable breakthrough that suggests it may be possible for lesbian couples to have their own biological children.
Sperm cells created from female embryo
Lesbian couples could one day have children who share both their genes
British scientists who had already coaxed male bone marrow cells to develop into primitive sperm cells have now repeated the feat with female embryonic stem cells.
The University of Newcastle team that has achieved the feat is now applying for permission to turn the bone marrow of a woman into sperm which, if successful, would make the method more practical than with embryonic cells.
It raises the possibility of lesbian couples one day having children who share both their genes as sperm created from the bone marrow of one woman could be used to fertilize an egg from her partner.
Men and women differ because of what are called sex chromosomes. Both have an X chromosome. But only men possess a Y chromosome that carries several genes thought to be essential to make sperm, so there has been skepticism that female stem cells could ever be used to make sperm.

In April last year, Prof Karim Nayernia, Professor of Stem Cell Biology at Newcastle University, made headlines by taking stem cells from adult men and making them develop into primitive sperm.
He has now managed to repeat the feat of creating the primitive sperm cells with female embryonic stem cells in unpublished work.
The next step is to make these primitive sperm undergo meiosis, so they have the right amount of genetic material for fertilization.
Prof Nayernia showed the potential of the method in 2006, when he used sperm derived from male embryonic stem cells to fertilise mice to produce seven pups, six of which lived to adulthood, though the survivors did suffer problems.
He is now optimistic about the prospect of lab-grown sperm from women.
“I think, in principle, it will be scientifically possible,” Prof Nayernia told New Scientist.
He said that he has applied for ethical approval from the university to use bone marrow stem cells from women to start experiments to derive female sperm.
“We are now writing the application form,” he said, adding that experiments will begin in Newcastle if and when they get approval.
However, Dr Robin Lovell-Badge, a stem cell and sex determination expert at the National Institute for Medical Research, Mill Hill, London, doubts it will work: “The presence of two X chromosomes is incompatible with this. Moreover they need genes from the Y chromosome to go through meiosis. So they are at least double-damned.”
In Brazil, a team led by Dr Irina Kerkis of the Butantan Institute in Saõ Paulo claims to have made both sperm and eggs from cultures of male mouse embryonic stem cells in the journal Cloning and Stem Cells.
The researchers have not yet shown that their male eggs can be fertilized to produce viable offspring, but they are thinking about possibilities for same-sex human reproduction.
If all these experiments pan out, then the stage would also be set for a gay man to donate skin cells that could be used to make eggs, which could then be fertilised by his partner’s sperm and placed into the uterus of a surrogate mother.
“I think it is possible,” says Kerkis, “but I don’t know how people will look at this ethically.”
The UK parliament is now debating changes to the 1990 Human Fertilization and Embryology Act, and the government is under pressure to include an amendment that would allow the future use of eggs and sperm grown in the lab from stem cells.
However, a clause added to this amendment would restrict this to sperm from genetic males and eggs from genetic females.
