2009, The Year of The Black Man Baby!

Finally we are starting to see the genius of the Black man again! We now have a Black President, Black leader of the Republican Party, Black winning Super Bowl coach, man this too much!
No, to be serious, it’s about time. All of us brothers need to step up our game and demonstrate to the world again our unique talents and brilliance. We need to end this ”baby mama drama” we got going on and clean up our act. In 2009 the world is our oyster, the zeitgeist is with us, it’s our turn to shine. Can we do it? “Yes we can”. Move over Oprah (with all respect) and make room for Barack Obama, Micheal Steele, and our new headliner, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. Scholarship, intelligence, responsibility, hard work and success will be our mantras. Yes, good things are in store for us this year, I can literally feel it.
To celebrate the resurrection of Black manhood, I am posting an article I wrote several years ago for ASALH on the history of two extremely positive organizations dedicated to the uplift of the African American community, the One Hundred Black Men and The Concerned Black Men. All of us committed to the betterment of our community should actively join one of them and make a difference.
