@ Khadija

Thank you for sharing your wisdom, and listing a resource. I appreciate it. I hope to God, young people are listening.

"Generally as BAMs, we are NOT wise with our words. We are also not balanced in our actions. Through words and deeds, many of us are creating a wave of enmity for Muslims in general among the general American population. If we persist in our unwise behavior, the backlash could get to the point that it’s no longer tenable for us to live in this country. Just as it became untenable for Japanese-Americans to live in the US during an earlier era." Khadija

@Sister Seeking:

You are quite correct in your warning to flee the so-called Muslim community. As I said (and was attacked for saying) during the Great Day in America discussion, it is NOT safe for decent people to be around such folks.

It's been a relief to see that, for the moment, some of the commenters from that earlier discussion who were loudly and publicly cheerleading for the Somali pirates have found the common sense to refrain from publicly cheerleading the miscreants discussed in this post. I'm prayerful that they will also refrain from cheerleading the man described as a "Muslim convert" who recently killed a military recruiter.

I would strongly urge all BAMs to give careful consideration to where you might relocate if conditions become too "hot" in the US for Muslims. Generally as BAMs, we are NOT wise with our words. We are also not balanced in our actions. Through words and deeds, many of us are creating a wave of enmity for Muslims in general among the general American population. If we persist in our unwise behavior, the backlash could get to the point that it's no longer tenable for us to live in this country. Just as it became untenable for Japanese-Americans to live in the US during an earlier era.

Unlike you, the immigrant Muslims already have home countries that they can run back to if they're feeling cornered.

O African-American Muslims: Remember the sad example of the innocent Japanese-Americans who were imprisoned in internment camps. Where do YOU have to run to if you are feeling cornered and pursued? Right now, most of us have not given a single thought to what we might do in such a circumstance. We're too busy loudtalking.

Don't let what happened to the Japanese-Americans happen to you and your families, if conditions get to this point. Plan ahead. Save your money. Start researching places that you can go if conditions became untenable for Muslims in this country.

An excellent book is Getting Out: Your Guide to Leaving America. It explains where you can most easily gain residence and citizenship, where you can live for a fraction of the cost of where you're living now, and what countries would be most compatible with your lifestyle, gender, age, or political beliefs. It also has a lot of interviews with a variety of people who have recently relocated outside the US.

Personally, I've read and heard a lot of good things about Panama. A more or less stable government, a Black population that I can visually blend into (I need to learn Spanish), with a lot of first world perks in places like Panama City, etc.

Recruiter Shooting Suspect Had Ties to Extremist Locations
Investigators Probing Attack to Determine Whether Shooting Suspect Acted Alone
By PIERRE THOMAS, RICHARD ESPOSITO and JACK DATE
June 2, 2009

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Story?id=7732467&page=2

The recent convert to Islam who allegedly shot and killed a U.S. soldier at a Little Rock, Ark., recruiting booth had ties to a number of global locations linked to extremists, including Yemen, Somalia and Columbus, Ohio, ABC News has learned.
Yemen and Somali are known hotbeds for terrorism. Columbus, Ohio, has been an area of domestic concern for authorities who have observed a number of Somali Americans traveling from there to Somali to wage jihad.

Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, 24, upon his arrest Monday shortly after the fatal shooting, allegedly confessed and told authorities he acted alone, according to court documents. But prior to the shooting, Muhammad had been the subject of a preliminary investigation by the FBI's Joint Terrorist Task Force since his return from Yemen, where he was arrested and had in his possession a false Somali passport, ABC News has learned.

And now, officials say, the FBI and the CIA are engaged in an intense effort to reconstruct Muhammad's path to extremism -- and allegedly to murder -- taking apart his life, examining his friendships, educational records, travel within the United States and possible contacts with extremists overseas.

Though police told ABC News that a preliminary investigation indicated that Muhammad acted alone, federal authorities are trying to determine whether others were involved in any way -- including supplying weapons, lending encouragement or support, and helping to identify a target -- in the Monday shooting that also critically wounded another soldier. Although he allegedly confessed, Muhammad also has pleaded not guilty to the shooting.
"We believe that it's associated with his disagreement over the military operations," Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas told The Associated Press. "At this point it appears that he specifically targeted military personnel, but there doesn't appear to be a wider conspiracy or, at this point in time, any indication that he's a part of a larger group or a conspiracy to go further."

According to a police report, Muhammad told police that he saw two uniformed U.S. soldiers in front of the recruiting office before he shot and killed Pvt. William Long, 23, and wounded Pvt. Quinton Ezeagwula, 18, while they were taking a break outside the U.S. Army recruiting station where they both worked.

Witness Lance Luplow said he came running when he heard six or seven "loud bangs."
"I come running across the street and there is a white male and a black male and they both are in Army fatigues and they're both shot real bad," Luplow said. "One of them couldn't even talk, the other one crawled inside and said, 'I can't believe this is happening.' The other guy, I mean he was so out of it -- he was just a blank stare. Just looking up at the sky."

Small Arsenal Found in Suspect's Car
Muhammad was arrested shortly after the shooting and he offered no resistance to authorities who stopped his vehicle, police said.
According to sources, shortly after his arrest the suspect advised police that he was going to kill as many Army personnel as possible. At the time of the shooting, the subject had 562 rounds of ammunition available, police said.

I agree with Charles, that these men reflect the riff raff of the city of Newburgh.I personally believe these men were trying to get a paycheck. Not to make up excuses for these men but if anobody knows anything about Newburgh and its unemployment and poverty that exist in this city. The lower half of the city off of Broadway looks worse than many big cities.Jobs are very scarce and most of the men unfortunely have chosen a life of crime. These men lives are a reflection of the many of Africian Amercian men of this city. Most defintrenly they were naive as can be and also devoid of common sense.I do agree to many BAM are getting caught up in nonsense and confusion.Even though I believe these men, just wanted to make some quick money. In other cases involing some BAM we just don't know who the hell we are culturally and poltically .iSo it is easy for some socalled mad jihadist to dupe some culturally deprived naive wanting to believe the lie of this monolithic ummah. As we all know this exist know were in the world.Just and observation but talking to people who live in Newburgh.this city is rarely ever receives good news. There is rampant police department corruption. And the City government there is just inept!Another sad story in BAM current decrepited situation.

I understand your pain perfectly. You know you always have a place here to say what you want to say. You are also correct when you say those people don't give a damn about you as a Black women. We're just suppose to be pawns in their game.

As salaam alaikum,

Brother Abdur-Rahman,

I want to tell you what made me snap, and walk away from the Muslim community in the first place.

I tried to tell my story ( which is a public record) on another BAM blog but that blog is controlled, and supported by the IMM community, and their supporters.

We live in the same area. In our area there was certain case in which a group of Muslim men ,including BAM’s were accused of aiding a registered terrorist group by participating in so called training events, etc.

My DH and I knew an Imam and his wife from a certain masjid. Of course, we are taught to defend the honor of all Muslims, and assume their innocence despite any evidence. We were encouraged to write letters to our elected officials, donate money, attend fundraisers, and attend protest. My DH never wanted me to get involved, and did none of the above. I did all of the above. The very next day, after attending that stupid protest, around 4 am in the morning the authorities showed up at our apartment. They walked in us with no clothing on. We had uniformed men pointing rifles at our faces, and I was barely allowed to put on a night gown to cover my self.

Abdur-Rahman, I’m angry brother. How in the hell am I supposed to just “get over” having a riffle pointed at my head? How in the hell am I supposed to just “get over” being man held with no clothing on? Do you know how frightened, and humiliating that experience is?

Thank God that neither one of us freaked out or did anything stupid. We could have been killed right there on the spot.

I called the sister to tell her what happened, and was given some short encouragement.

This is the same place that I went seeking counseling the day I found out my biological mother passed away, and was dismissed by the receptionist as seeking zakkat before I could even get a word out.

That’s when it clicked for me. That’s when I realized that all of the money I donated, all the protest I attended, and all of the licking stamps was for naught. These people don’t care about me: including the BAM’s who share my heritage. These people will let the other shoe drop if anything happens to me. That’s when I saw, these people aren’t trying to practice a religion. They aren’t here for missionary work. This is completely something different. I accept that my immaturity, inexperience, low self-esteem, and grief ( from my loss) affected my judgment. I’ve sought professional help, and prayed about this for a long time now. I’m still angry. Because I could have lost my life or liberty for a people who don’t respect me because I’m black, because I’m woman, and just because I’m me.

That has been my experience. I don’t need a pity party or a pep talk. I know what I’ve seen. I know what I’ve heard. I won’t forget. I WON’T forget.

I’ll be damned if any person on this earth sits up there and tells me it didn’t happen to me by accusing me or others who are trying to give people information so that they can make a good faith decision about if they want to do -a -or-b- with out being deceived.

Also, Abdur-Rahman, I’m done with the whole interfaith work. These interfaith groups are dialoguing with Islamic leaders, and groups who have a sordid reputation for legions of women and children ( black, white, rich, poor) who have been terrorized, abused, and used. I’m astonished that they don’t screen these organizations before putting the reputation of their congregations on the line.

I’m going to repeat what I said on Salafi Burn Out Blog:

1)***GET OUT*** repeat: ***GET OUT***of the *ENTIRE* Muslim community. If you can’t do it for yourself, do it for your children. Do it for them because they are innocent, and do not comprehend the consequences set to befall them if you don’t put their safety, and well being first. The Muslim community is ***NO LONGER*** a healthy, safe, vibrant, and prosperous people to be apart of. Those days MAY NEVER come back. It doesn’t matter what sect or group the pathology is still the same where ever you go. ESCAPE. It will be disorienting, and scary for awhile, but YOU CAN do this, you MUST do this! Seek refuge with other groups of people or simply go back to your non-Muslim family if they are safe people. NOBODY, I mean NOBODY, is coming to save you–be a woman, stand up, and fight back–walk the hell away from this cesspool. *NOW* is the time to get real with your self, and everybody in your life.
