Today I got a phone call from a friend in New York and we were reflecting on where and what we were doing the moment the planes hit the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. Both of us recalled it like it was yesterday, the sky was incredibly clear and the weather was perfect, just like it is today. The whole thing was surreal and the images absolutely horrific. It was an awful, awful day, one that caused me to reexamine what it meant to be a Muslim living in America ,and the future of Islam in this country. I suppose I’m still in the process of that examination, and imagine I”ll continue to be until my last breath. But for now, let us take this time to remember our fallen countrymen and women, whose only crime was going to work and taking care of their families.
